In a May 29, 2024 order, United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of California, Haywood S. Gilliam, Jr., in Grace v. Bay Area Real Estate Information Services, Inc., et al., 23-cv-06352, dismissed the plaintiff’s first amended complaint against Bartko LLP client Bay Area Real Estate Information Services, Inc. (BAREIS).

June 3, 2024: Jason A. Zweig was named to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyers list. Per their website, this list was compiled “through Lawdragon’s time-honed process of submissions, independent research and vetting with friends and foes.”

On May 22, 2024, Patrick M. Ryan, a co-managing partner and head of Litigation at Bartko LLP was named as a “Top Intellectual Property Lawyer” in California by the Daily Journal. This annual list recognizes lawyers who made the most significant contributions to this growing, and increasingly essential, practice of law. Ryan has over 24 years of experience successfully trying cases, for both plaintiffs and defendants, including several major intellectual property cases.

On February 21, 2024, the Bartko trial team from the In Re Francesca Naify case received a Daily Journal award as one of California’s top five defense verdicts in 2023, and the top trust and estate case verdict. Ben Riley, Rob Bunzel, and Sony Barari tried the case over five weeks, with 93 hours of testimony. The case involved deceased United Artists theater tycoon Robert Naify and claims by his step-daughter that Naify did not provide his deceased wife with her full share of his $2.3 billion in assets. The trial presented cutting-edge principals of probate and community property law, and a total damages claim of $680 million.

Bartko LLP scored the highest Intellectual Property and Trade Secrets victory in California in 2019 and was ranked Number 2 overall in the California Daily Journal’s Top Verdicts by Dollar in California for 2019. In May of 2019, Bartko secured an $845,114,000.00 victory in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

September 15, 2023: San Francisco, CA – Benjamin K. Riley—a principal in Bartko’s Litigation practice and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee—was selected by the California Daily Journal as one of the “Top 100 Lawyers in California” for 2023.

The Bartko team, with Patrick M. Ryan as lead counsel, scored a major win in trade secret, tort, and breach of contract case entitled Bama Commercial Leasing LLC v. Uber Technologies, Inc., CGC-19-579763 (S.F. Super. Ct., filed Oct. 3, 2019).

After a 5-week jury trial in the Northern District of California, the nine member jury returned a verdict on Friday, March 11 in favor of our client Sutter Health, finding that Sutter did not tie its hospital services together, and did not force insurance companies to contract with Sutter on allegedly anticompetitive terms.
